Drug Uses

Plavix is an antiplatelet drug that helps prevent development of atherothrombosis regardless of the localization of atherosclerotic lesions. The antiplatelet therapy with Plavix can be indicated to the patients with acute coronary syndromes, atrial fibrillation and recent atherothrombotic events.

Plavix helps prevent long-term atherothrombotic events in the adult patients with acute coronary syndromes, and thereby reduces the risk of stroke, heart attack, re-infarction, cardiovascular death and refractory myocardial ischemic syndromes.

Plavix is indicated for secondary prevention of atherothrombotic events and reduction of risks of heart attack, thrombotic and embolic ischemic stroke, and vascular death in the adult patients with established peripheral arterial disease, or recent history of cardiovascular or cerebrovascular events.

Missed Dose

If you remembered about the missed dose of Plavix within 12 hours after the scheduled time, take the tablet as soon as possible. In other case wait till your next dose of this antiplatelet drug and skip the forgotten dose of Plavix.

More Information

The efficacy of Plavix after primary angioplasty is not confirmed. The patients with atrial fibrillation and acute coronary syndrome should use Plavix only in combination with aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid, ASA). Some patients with arterial fibrillation can be indicated with Plavix to reduce the risk of thromboembolic and atherothrombotic events.

Storage

Tablets Plavix must be stored at temperature not above 25°C, in a dry warm place out of reach of children.

Warnings

Over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription (RX) drugs from the group of proton pump inhibitors (PPI) inhibit an antiplatelet effect of Plavix. Therefore, patients taking Plavix should avoid the PPIs, and apply an alternative therapy of acid-dependent gastrointestinal disorders.

Plavix Side Effects

Plavix tablets are well tolerated and cause low incidence of non-intensive undesirable effects.
